MORE ABOUT ME

Elsewhere

Taking a break from drinking while I navigate trying to conceive has been harder than I expected. It’s not usually the story you hear when someone stops drinking—people often talk about feeling better or clearer. And while I do appreciate the benefits, I’ll admit I really miss wine. I miss the taste, the celebratory feel, and the ritual of sharing a drink with friends.

Of course, it’s true that you can have all of those things without alcohol—connection, joy, and togetherness don’t come from the glass itself—but I wanted some non-alcoholic wines that look and taste like the real deal this festive season. These options make me feel part of the fun while still aligning with my goals.

Here are my top picks for wines and spirits that I’ve loved and will be sharing this holiday season:

Prosecco: Tread Softly Prosecco

If you love bubbles that feel light and crisp, this is a great choice. It’s got that classic “pop the bottle and celebrate” vibe, with fresh notes of green apple and a little citrus. It tastes clean and refreshing—just like a good prosecco should.

Where to Buy: Available at Dan Murphy’s or online through the Tread Softly website.

White Wine: Plus & Minus Pinot Grigio

This one really surprised me because it actually tastes close to a regular pinot grigio. It’s light, fresh, and zesty—like a mix of apple and pear with just a bit of something floral. Perfect with a cheese platter or summer seafood.

Where to Buy: Widely available at Dan Murphy’s, BWS, and selected supermarkets.

Rosé: Tread Softly Rosé

This rosé is so pretty in the glass and tastes light and fruity without being too sweet. Think strawberries, a hint of watermelon, and that dry finish that makes it feel refreshing. It’s perfect for summer afternoons or sharing over nibbles with friends.

Where to Buy: Find it at Dan Murphy’s or order online via Tread Softly’s website

Red Wine: Plus & Minus Pinot Noir

If you’re a red wine lover, this is a solid alcohol-free option. It’s light, smooth, and has flavors like cherry and a little bit of spice (not fancy spice, just that cozy “winter meal” vibe). It works really well with a festive roast or even a pizza night.

Where to Buy: Available at Dan Murphy’s, BWS, and leading bottle shops.

Non-Alcoholic Spirits

If you’re more of a cocktail person, these spirit alternatives are game-changers.

For an “Aperol Spritz” Option

This mix gives you everything you love about an Aperol Spritz—bitter, orange-y, and refreshing. It’s perfect for warm summer evenings and feels super celebratory.

Where to Buy: Lyre’s products are available at Dan Murphy’s and Amazon.

For a Gin and Tonic

This tastes really close to the real thing. It’s got that fresh, juniper-like gin flavor with a little bit of citrus. Add a good tonic and a wedge of lime, and you’re sorted.

Where to Buy: Available at Dan Murphy’s, BWS, or Lyre’s website.

For a Spiced Rum and Coke

This is a great rum alternative if you’re into that rich, spiced flavor. It’s warm and slightly sweet, with hints of caramel and vanilla. Perfect for a cozy spiced rum and coke when you’re in the mood for something comforting.

Where to Buy: Purchase online via Caleño’s website or at Dan Murphy’s

If you’re looking for even more non-alcoholic options, I’ve found Sans Drinks to be a great resource. They have such a wide variety of non-alcoholic wines, spirits, beers, and even pre-mixed drinks, which has been so helpful when I’ve wanted to try something new.

Closing Thoughts

These non-alcoholic wines and spirits have made such a difference for me this festive season. They’ve allowed me to still enjoy the rituals I love—raising a glass, sharing drinks with friends, and being part of the celebration—without compromising my goals.

Whether you’re choosing to drink less or abstaining entirely, these options are delicious, festive, and just as special as the real thing. Cheers to a joyful, inclusive, and sparkling holiday season!

Note: Nothing in this post is sponsored (although I do acknowledge that it sounds like it is). Just sharing some of the options I have tried!
